Find your native AiM XRK file
Download the original recording from your AiM logger, ready for your next analysis.

Before you start
XRK is an AiM session data format. Start with a logger that records XRK data, Race Studio 3, and the cable or Wi-Fi connection your device uses. Older devices may use other file formats; the CSV guide is another export route.
Retrieve the recording
Connect and select the session
Connect your logger and open Race Studio 3. In the device’s download view, identify the run by its date, track, and session time.
Download the session
Download the selected run to your computer. Wait until the transfer has finished before disconnecting the logger.
Locate the XRK file
Check Race Studio’s configured data download directory for the session’s .xrk file. Use the destination shown by your installation; a custom install or changed data folder may use a different location.
Keep an original copy
Copy the session file to an easy-to-find folder. Keep its .xrk extension and retain your downloaded original as a backup.
Keep the useful channels
The analysis can only use what your device recorded. Preserve these channels when they are available:
- Time & lap markers
- The timeline and lap boundaries that keep a session in order.
- Speed & distance
- The foundation for comparing pace and locating changes around a lap.
- GPS position
- Latitude and longitude for the driven line and track map.
- Throttle & brake
- Driver inputs that help explain the speed trace. These require the appropriate sensors or ECU connection.
- RPM, gear & acceleration
- Extra context for shifts, cornering load, acceleration, and deceleration.
Bring your session into Laptura
Open Laptura
Sign in to your Laptura account and open the session upload area. If you’re waiting for beta access, you can still prepare and keep your export for later.
Upload the telemetry file
Choose the file you prepared. Keep the original extension and upload the data file itself, rather than a ZIP archive, video, or screenshot.
Check the session
When processing finishes, check the track, lap count, and available channels. Start with a complete lap and compare it with another clean lap from the same session.
Common fixes
- Device configurations and track definitions are different from recorded session files. Check that the selected file ends in .xrk.
- A partially downloaded session may fail to open. Verify it in Race Studio, then repeat the download if necessary.
- Renaming another format to .xrk does not convert it. Use Race Studio’s CSV export workflow if your device produces a different format.
